Sermon notes:

What is 750,000 miles long, circles the globe 30 times, and grows by 20 miles per day?

Answer: The line of unsaved people.     In last week from here to Neb

What do you feel when you hear these numbers? Pity, overwhelmed, helpless,

Jesus felt compassion-

Luke 7: 11  Soon afterward, Jesus went to a town called Nain, and his disciples and a large crowd went along with him.

12  As he approached the town gate, a dead person was being carried out--the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the town was with her.

13  When the Lord saw her, his heart went out to her and he said, "Don't cry."

14  Then he went up and touched the coffin, and those carrying it stood still. He said, "Young man, I say to you, get up!"

15  The dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him back to his mother.

16  They were all filled with awe and praised God. "A great prophet has appeared among us," they said. "God has come to help his people."

Matthew 20: 29  As Jesus and his disciples were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed him.

30  Two blind men were sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was going by, they shouted, "Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!"

31  The crowd rebuked them and told them to be quiet, but they shouted all the louder, "Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!"

32  Jesus stopped and called them. "What do you want me to do for you?" he asked.

33  "Lord," they answered, "we want our sight."

34  Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately they received their sight and followed him.

Matthew 9: 35  Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness.

36  When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.

37  Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.

38  Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field."

Compassion—sympathetic consciousness of others’ distress together with a desire to alleviate it.

How can I feel compassion for the whole world? Bangladesh—crowds of people—Harijan people in Mymensingh –railroads, slums,      Show pictures

I am only responsible for “my” world, not the whole world

“The longer we are Christians, the less non-Christian friends we have.”

Jesus was a friend of sinners.  How can we become friends to sinners?

NIV Romans 1: 15  That is why I am so eager to preach the gospel also to you who are at Rome.

16  I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.

KJV Romans 1: 15  So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also.

16  For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

“as much as is in me”---To the degree that the gospel has touched me is the degree I can touch others.

“I am ready(KJV) or eager (NIV)

We are only eager and ready if the gospel has made a difference in our lives.

John 17: 15  My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one.

16  They are not of the world, even as I am not of it.

17  Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.

18  As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world.

19  For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified.

God saves us to send us.

How do we go about evangelizing our world? Man in prison--?

Next time

God give us compassion for the lost.
